A gang of auto-lifters, involved in 35 cases in Delhi, has been busted. The Delhi police arrested Monu, 24, and Sumit, 21, from RK Puram Sector 5 early Tuesday morning.

Acting on a tip-off, the police had cordoned off the area and erected barricades to check vehicles. Around 3 am, the cops asked two people on a Hero Honda Passion bike bearing registration number DL1SG 8443 to stop.

The bikers, however, tried to escape, but cops on duty intercepted them and asked them to produce documents. "The duo did not have any papers and we found a bunch of keys of bikes and cars in their possession. When we checked the number plate of the bike in our vehicle theft register we found that it was stolen from Sunlight Colony," a police officer told MiD DAY.

On sustained interrogation, they admitted their involvement in 35 car theft cases. They belong to the gang of notorious auto lifters Anil and Vikram, who are currently lodged in jail. The police have also seized 26 stolen number plates from Sumit's residence.

"The duo used to change the registration plates of cars and drove them to Baghpat in UP for selling them," the officer said.

Hook, crook, steal
Four carjackers were arrested from Hari Nagar in west Delhi on Monday night. Devender, 33, Jaikishan, 21, Manjit, 21, and Jai Bhagwan, 20, had two loaded pistols and a button knife at the time of arrest. The cops have also seized a Zen Estilo car from their possession.
