DTE says students of disaffiliated institute will be accommodated in other colleges

Two days after the academic council of the University of Pune (UoP) finally disaffiliated the Mulshi Institute of Technology and Research (MITR) and students met officials to protest against the decision, a meeting was convened between the top brass of the university and the regional joint director of technical education to decide the fate of the students. The officials decided to accommodate the students in other UoP-affiliated colleges.

Two days ago, the academic council of the UoP disaffiliated MITR, following an inquiry which found that the college had let its students do mass copying during the 2009 university exam.

Announcing the decision, varsity officials had clarified that it was now the job of the DTE to look after the students. After the announcement, students and their parents met DTE joint director D N Shingade and asked for justice. "The students were worried as their exams are near and forms were yet to be filled. The students were also not sure where to submit their term work and projects for evaluation," said Shingade.

Yesterday, Shingade met V-C R K Shevgaonkar and director of board of college and university development Vasudev Gade and it was decided to accommodate regular students without any backlogs in other colleges.
"There are more than 300 students involved. Some of them have failed or are known as year-down students who couldn't complete their backlog exams on time. These students will directly appear for exams through the university and others will go to colleges in and around Mulshi," said Shingade.

Students heaved a sigh of relief after the decision. "We had been suffering for no mistake of ours; whatever mistake was there was on the college's behalf. For more than a year, our careers were hanging in the balance. Finally there is some clarity and we are glad that our year will not be wasted," said a student, adding that the college or university was yet to give them instructions on how to go about fresh admissions.
