Two held in Lodhi Colony with charges of robbery, snatching and auto-lifting
They led a dangerous life and had an appetite for adventure. In the end they took it a step too far. With the arrest of 2 bikers from west Delhi, the police claim to have solved 30 incidents of snatchings, vehicle theft and robberies in the Capital.
"They were known as the "Gora" gang. Initially they started stunt biking in various areas of west Delhi. But then they decided to focus their passion into a means for making easy money. We have arrested Deepak (20) and Gurumeet (23) from Lodhi Colony area," a police officer said.
The leader of the gang, Gora, has gone missing with his two accomplices Kabooter and Monu.
"This gang had a unique modus operandi. The members divided their work in 4 shifts - morning, day, evening and night. In the morning shifts they specifically targeted women for snatching of gold chains and purses.
During the day shift their focus was on targeting mobile phones. In the evening shift they resorted to mugging people near parks and also pick-pocketing. At night they committed the more serious crimes like burglary and auto-lifting. This gang was also involved in the robbery of Rs 50 lakh in Malviya Nagar area last year. During investigations two police constables too were also arrested," the officer said.
"They were stunt bikers and their theory was to drive fast and escape. Their target areas were posh localities of west Delhi like Paschim Vihar, Vikaspuri, Tilak Nagar, Uttam Nagar etc. All of them have spent long periods in jail. They were experts at snatching mobile phones," the officer added.
The police have recovered two knives, a stolen Maruti car and a motor bike from the accused. Efforts are on to arrest the rest of the gang.
