Brother alleges dowry harrasment after sister succumbs to burn injuries
On October 25, Chandrakala Prajapati (20), a resident of Sai Nagar in Vadgaon Sheri, died from severe burns and a case of accidental death was lodged.
However, yesterday, the Yerwada police registered a fresh case of dowry death and arrested her husband Sandip Prajapati and booked her mother-in-law Basavraji for abetting Chandrakala to commit suicide and harassing her under the Domestic Violence Act.
Chandrakala's brother Rajaram reportedly lodged a complaint against them.
According to Rajaram, Chandrakala shifted to Pune from Delhi where her husband had a pottery business. She was to leave for Delhi soon to prepare for the IAS.
"Chandrakala had told us that her husband and her mother-in-law were harassing her to get Rs 1 lakh from her parents," said Rajaram.
He added Chandrakala had also confided to their younger brother Jawaharlal. Rajaram said, "I decided to take her back to Delhi on Tuesday, but this fateful incident took place on Sunday morning."
Besides, he added, "Her husband and mother-in-law should get maximum punishment for harassing my sister." PSI Savita Mali said, "We will arrest the mother-in-law soon."
They will appear in sessions court today.
