After party chief Sharad Pawar and deputy CM Ajit Pawar, Supriya Sule will be the third member from the NCP family to head a party wing which will be launched on June 10. The Rashtrawadi Yuvati Congress will work with younger women from colleges and those who aspire to join politics.
On Saturday, Madhukar Pichad, who was re-elected as the state unit chief, announced the launch of the wing before party office bearers across the state. He said it will help the party in view of the 50 per cent reservation to women in local and civic bodies.
Clearly, the NCP has set its eyes on the female vote bank by offering them a forum headed by the NCP supremo's daughter.
"NCP tops the charts when it comes to the maximum number of elected women members in local and civic bodies. After touring the state, I realise that young women's issues are different from those of middle-aged and elder women," said Sule.
She added that the wing will focus on education, health, social security and development of sports among young women. She also said that 5,000 young women will be present at the launch on June 10.
Pawar, for whom the new wing may be viewed as a parallel threat, wished the Yuvati Congress well.
