Culprit held red-handed; managed to evade CCTV cameras for over three months

It's not a case of taps running dry. For the past three months Rahul Kumar was a man on a mission. And the Saket Court Complex was his playground.

Dry run: A thief was held at the Saket Court Complexu00a0stealing taps.
Local police had received many complaints in the past few months.

Kumar stole over 50 to 70 taps from the premises during that period. Finally, he was caught red-handed by a peon working at the court complex, Radhey Lal, who checked his bag, found the taps and complained at the Saket police station.

"On the basis of the complaint lodged by Radhey Lal, we have registered a case of theft at the Saket police station and are investigating the matter," a senior police officer said. Rahul Kumar stays in Dakshinpuri area of southeast district.

"When he was interrogated he told us that he has been stealing taps from the court complex for the past few months and has stolen about 50 taps till now. He used to sell them in the market to earn money as the taps used in the Saket Court Complex are of good quality," the police officer added.

Sources said that Saket police had been receiving complaints of theft for the past few months but were unable to identify the culprit. "Yesterday when he was carrying some taps in his bag and was trying to make his way out he was caught red-handed," they added.

The building was inaugurated about five months ago in south Delhi and has been termed as one of the most modern technologically. "It has CCTV cameras installed at several locations. But still the thief managed to escape notice for so long. That's a bit surprising," sources said. Cops are now interrogating Rahul to find out if he had any accomplices.
