A Class 12 student of a government-aided school in Uttar Pradesh's Balrampur district was hospitalised after being beaten by a teacher for leaving the classroom without his permission, police said Friday.

While a case has been registered against the teacher, who is absconding, the student, Shakeel Ahmad, is being treated at a hospital of head injuries where his condition is said to be out of danger.

"After repeatedly beating Shakeel with a wooden stick, the teacher (Mohd. Shehnawaz) also assaulted him several times with a duster that left the 17-year-old's head bleeding," police inspector J.P. Tiwari said.
