TRS chief shifted out of ICU within hours of Centre's nod to separate state
The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) chief, K Chandrasekhar Rao, who ended his 11-day fast for a Telangana state late last night, was shifted out of the ICU soon after the Centre's nod to the demand.
He was transferred to a separate ward in the same hospital, Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences, doctors said.
KCR's condition was critical when the news of the Centre's acceptance came in. He had been fasting since November 29 and yesterday, doctors attending to him had said his health was deteriorating.
KCR finally broke his fast at around 12.30 am with a glass of juice from party ideologue Jayashankar, as celebrations by TRS activists and supporters erupted on the streets of Hyderabad following the Centre's decision.
He wept inconsolably, recalling the sacrifices of the students and youth. He also thanked state CM K Rosaiah over the phone.
Conceding to the demand for a separate Telangana state a little before midnight, the Centre said the process for this would soon be initiated.
The decision was taken at a meeting that PM Manmohan Singh had with Rosaiah after two rounds of consultations in the Congress Core Committee.
