Friend's promotion celebration turned fatal after unidentified men hit the 30-year-old man with an iron rodThey say happiness doesn't last too long. For 30-year-old Gautam, a senior consultant with a telecom company, who had visited Gurgaon to celebrate a friend's promotion, this adage proved quite appropriate.
On June 6, around 2.30 am, Gautam who works for Indus Towers had come to Gurgaon for dinner with his wife, three-year-old daughter and three friends to celebrate a friend's promotion. While on the Mehrauli-Gurgaon road, they stopped at a kiosk to buy cigarettes. "While we waited inside the car, Gautam's friend Abhijeet got down to buy cigarettes. Suddenly, some people gathered around him, carrying bats and rods and beat him up," said Mona, Gautam's wife.
As Gautam tried to intervene, one of the assailants hit him on the head with an iron rod, Mona added. The assailants then fled.
"Since we were in no condition to drive, a passerby took us to the nearby Neelkanth Hospital where Gautam was administered first-aid. As nothing concrete surfaced after a CT scan, the doctors asked us to take him to some other hospital as his condition had started deteriorating," Mona said.
Doctors at Vimhans Hospital, where Gautam is now admitted, said it would not be possible to ascertain his condition soon.
"He is under observation for 72 hours in the ICU. The doctors are still unable to confirm whether he is out of danger or not. We will be unable to follow up the case with the Gurgaon police till the doctors declare him out of danger and shift him to the general ward," Gautam's brother-in-law Nirantar Dubey said. Gautam is a resident of Indirapuram in Ghaziabad.
The Gurgaon police have registered an FIR under Sections 323 and 307 of the IPC on Abhijeet's statement, SHO of DLF Phase I police station, Preet Singh, said.
