Department claims to have busted a pan-India terror module with the arrest of six suspected Indian Mujahideen operatives including a Pakistani allegedly involved in Jama Masjid attack, German Bakery blast and Chinnaswamy Stadium blast cases.

Since 2000, eleven terror cases being probed by investigation agencies have remained unsolved. That may change. On Wednesday, Delhi police claimed a breakthrough in the Jama Masjid attack and a few other cases from across the country with the arrest of six suspected Indian Mujahideen operatives, one of them a Pakistani national.u00a0

Officials said they have busted an Indian Mujahideen (IM) module suspected to be involved in the Pune German Bakery blast of February 13, 2010, Bangalore's Chinnaswamy Stadium blast of April 17, 2010 and Delhi's Jama Masjid shooting case of September 19 last year, with the help of intelligence agencies.u00a0

"We had also kept police departments from West Bengal, Bihar and Tamil Nadu in the loop," they said.u00a0"Two AK-47 rifles along with 50 cartridges, a 9mm pistol with 14 live cartridges, 1.4 kg of black explosive material, 3.2 kg of white explosives, 350 gm of granular off-white explosive material, 5 detonators and fake Indian currency notes worth Rs 2 lakh along with other incriminating materials have been recovered," the sources said.u00a0

On a tip-off received about his whereabouts, Mohammed Qateel Siddiqi alias Sajan alias Vivek Mishra (27), who was residing in Delhi, was apprehended near Anand Vihar bus terminal on November 22.u00a0On interrogating him, it was revealed that he is a member of the Indian Mujahideen (IM) terror module led by Ahmad Siddi Bappa alias Shahrukh alias Yashin Ahmad alias Imran of Bhatkal, Karnataka.u00a0

The next day, another member of the IM module, Gauhar Aziz Khumani (31), resident of Darbhanga, Bihar, was apprehended from Delhi.u00a0Based on inputs provided by Siddiqi, raids were conducted in Madhubani, Bihar and on November 24, another member of the same module, Gayur Ahmad Jamali (21) was apprehended. Mohd. Adhil alias Ajamal, another operative, was caught the next day.u00a0

Shafiq who hails from Karachi in Pakistan, was apprehended from Madhubani.u00a0As more inquiries were made, cops received tip-offs about two more members of the module - Mohammed Irshad Khan (52), Samastipur, Bihar and presently residing in Delhi and Abdur Rahman (19), from Darbhanga, Bihar, who was living in Chennai.

All these alleged IM members were subjected to intensive interrogation, which has revealed that this module is involved in terror attacks across the country, say officials. Further investigation is in progress.

Union home ministeru00a0P Chidambaram, while addressing a press conference on Wednesday, confirmed that Delhi police has arrested six suspected Indian Mujahideen operatives in connection with Pune's German Bakery blast and Delhi's Jama Masjid firing incidents.u00a0He also said that a Pakistani national is also among the six arrested Indian Mujahideen operatives.u00a0Police commissioner of Delhi BK Gupta reportedly had a meeting with Chidambaram on Wednesday in connection with the apprehensions made by Special Cell. Gupta briefed the minister about the probe.u00a0Interestingly, deputy commissioner of police (crime branch), Ashok Chand was supervising Special Cell sleuths, despite the presence of four senior police officers designated to the unit.u00a0
