WILD NOT WOW
Andheri's new jungle theme restaurant forgot to get its food right
Pratap's Wild Dining is an ideal hangout for kids. We say that because after you hit the age of 10, arrow-shooting hunter gatherers and swinging monkeys fail to amuse you. We'd rather pick food over ambience.
And so, while Oshiwara's latest eatery delivers on its promise to recreate the magic of the wild with an artificial jungle, a simulated thunderstorm and robotic animals, it lets you down where taste goes.
Food and drinks: We began our meal with The Sweet and Sour Manchow Soup and The Lung Fung Soup. Both had an overdose of ginger. Among starters, The Fish Fry was tasty, but the Chicken in Manchurian and
Tandoori dishes was a bit tough. The salad counter was the biggest let down. Avoid the Ceasar Salad; all you'll get is lettuce leaves dripping in mayo.
The main course included a mix of Indian and Chinese dishes served up on a table that resembled a log. The Mutton Biryani was decent, the Gujarati Kadhi was sweet like it's meant to be. The gravy dishes were limited to a Prawn Curry and Dal Jungli (a kind of Dal Makhni).
Mocktails like Crocodile Punch, and Monkey Business were mediocre. They also serve alcohol. Stay away from the Fruit Custard.
Service: Dressed in ranger outfits, the stewards were attentive and quick, making it a point to refill your plate at regular intervals.
Ambience: Don't be surprised if someone dressed in a bearsuit walks up to your table to greet you. As you make your way to the different counters which include the buffet table, bar, salad, pasta, nacho and taco and dessert counter, make sure you admire the leafy foliage on the ceiling. After all, that's all there is to this place.
