The Guide chatted up with Mumbai-based band Something Relevant who are back in the city after an around the world in 30 days musical tour
If you want to listen to a band that amalgamates a variety of musical styles, head to Something Relevant's gig over the weekend. The band consists of seven members including Aazin (vocals), Jehangir (drums and percussion), Stuart (bass), Tanmay (guitar), Ryan (tenor/ alto / saxophone / backing vocals), Luis (keyboard / backing vocals) and Aalok (percussion / tabla / backing vocals).
In Pune, the band will present their latest songs. "Fans can get a taste of the music on our website before coming for the gig. We have uploaded all the songs online," shares Tanmay The band is just back from their international tour where they played at 27 shows in just 30 days. "We have been away from India for so long that we were missing playing here. It had been ages since we performed here," says Tanmay.
But the band is proud that they could take part in prestigious gigs including at Edinburgh Fringe, India Club at Indonesia and the Festival of India at the Universitas Indonesia.
"The Edinburgh festival was amazing. There were 2,400 shows in 300 venues with thousands of people visiting daily. When we visited the city a couple of days before the event there were no people on the streets. But after the festival, we saw thousands of people out there," adds Tanmay.
In spite of the large audience, the members still miss India and admit that crowds everywhere are the same and so is the madness and the love for music.
"We love performing in India. Though we have plans for more international gigs our soul lies in India. Our focus in on gigs that happen here," he says.
The band is also busy with their second album which is still in its initial stages. "Gigs are currently keeping us busy but we will start working on it soon," he promises.
