After a brief lull, a gang of men posing as cops struck again on Tuesday. The gang targeted three women and robbed them of gold jewellery collectively worth Rs 2.5 lakh.
The gang has been actively targeting senior citizens for the past one year, yet the cops have not been able to find any leads.
Vatsala Krishna Prasad (68), was waiting at the bus stop when a man approached her and introduced himself as a police officer. He took her to his 'senior' who was waiting on a bike a short distance away.
The 'officer' told Vatsalau00a0they were investigating the murder of an elderly woman named Heera Bai.
The officer told her that they are slapping a fine of Rs 2,000 on people who wear gold valuables and attract anti-social elements.
The senior officer then told his 'junior' to help her take off her gold valuables worth Rs 1.5 lakh and keep them in her handbag. After the two left, Vatsala opened her handbag only to find pebbles.
Rosi Wilson, a St John's Hospital employee, was robbed similarly when a man, claiming to be a CBI officer, approached her, and made off with valuables worth Rs 70,000.
Thugs also targeted Swati Karve in RT Nagar and robbed her of valuables worth Rs 60,000 claiming to be police officers.
Senior police officers have taken a serious note on the rising incidents, and have directed the jurisdictional police officers to be on alert.
