Three held for illicit possession of naphtha

The Central Investigation Department (CID) officials recovered 5,639 liters of naphtha worth Rs 4.37 lakh from a godown at Jamburkarvasti in Chakan yesterday.


The Central Investigation Department (CID) officials recovered 5,639 liters of naphtha worth Rs 4.37 lakh from a godown at Jamburkarvasti in Chakan yesterday.

Besides, the cops arrested three people who were allegedly involved in the illegal trade.

Receiving a tip-off from the Pune rural police, the CID officials raided the godown at 12.15 am and discovered 11 barrels of naphtha. There they arrested Sachin Jamburkar.

Later, when the cops searched Jamburkar's house, they recovered another 17 barrels. According to the cops, the source from where Jamburkar procured the chemical is still not known.

Apart from Jambukar, the cops have arrested two more people in connection with the case. Those arrested have been identified as Santosh Jamburkar and Gorakshanath Aher who's a resident of Jadhav Wadi in Chikhli.

The trio has been booked under rule numbers 12, 14 of Naphtha Control Order, section 284 of Indian Penal Code and section 3 and 7 of the Essential Commodities Act.

Bhausaheb Aandhalkar, a senior inspector of CID, said, "Once we get their custody, we will interrogate about the source from where they procured the chemical."
