Understanding concepts key to exam success
Eeshan Gunesh Dhe-kane, who was a student of Dnyan Prabodhini Prashala, scored 96.6 per cent last year. Currently he is in SP College, studying science and preparing for the Maths Olympiad. This is his advice:
>> More important than the number of hours you put in studying a subject is understanding the concept; it is very important to understand the topic and not just mug it. Shubham Tapadiya scored 97 % in the ICSE exam last year
>> Do not compromise on diet and rest. It is very important to have proper food and sleep before and during the examinations.
>> Do not get stressed out because of examinations. With stress, there are chances you might forget whatever you have studied.
>> I personally do not believe in taking breaks, because once you take a break it is hard to concentrate again on studies.
>> Though examinations are an integral part of our life, it is not the end of the world. Do not let exam pressure get to you, just concentrate on studying.
Take a break every two hours, return to books refreshed
Shubham Tapadiya, who was a student of Bishop's School, scored 97 per cent in the ICSE examination last year. Currently, he is studying in Std 11 in the Army Public School and preparing for his medical entrance. Here is his advice:
>> If you are studying a particular chapter, complete it thoroughly and give it your full attention. Do the chapter with complete dedication so that if there is any question from it in the question paper one should know the answer.
>> It is best for students to solve questions from past question papers because many questions get repeated from past exams in the paper.
>> While studying, it is advisable to take breaks every two hours and to interact with someone for at least 10 minutes. It helps you concentrate better when you go back to your books; if you keep sitting at one place for a long time it is difficult to concentrate.
>> Do not completely give up your daily activities like playing outdoor or indoor games or listening to music as it helps you concentrate better on studies.
>> Do not get bogged down by examination pressure. Sleep and take rest as required by your body. If you get worried too much about exams, then there are chances that you might not be able to focus on the subjects.
