It's time for a nail biting finish to the long and agonising wait for this year's SSC candidates. The results for the crucial Secondary School Certificate exam are scheduled to be declared at 1 pm tomorrow by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education.u00a0MiD DAY asked some of the city's leading counsellors how parents could help their kids in their hours of wait, as well as after the verdict is out.
Kavita Sharma, counsellor with the Vandrevala Foundation's 24-hour helpline for students and parents, said, "We have received several apprehensive calls from students and parents asking about the scheduled date for the SSC results. Last year, a parent called up and wept because her son had performed badly. She was worried about his future. Before and after the results are declared, parents should be strong and supportive for their children. They should check in with their child if he or she is being aloof or unsocial. Parents should be very supportive emotionally, even if the child has failed or has concealed the result."
Anjali Chhabria, psychiatrist with Mind Temple in Juhu, said, "There are two common things which push young teenagers to take extreme steps - exam results and broken relationships. I would suggest parents to be more sensitive and accept the results as they are. They should try and accompany their wards when they go to take their results."
