District magistrate to pull up middlemen providing back door admissions through management quota in Noida colleges

If you thought money could get you a seat without the set percentage on your mark sheet.u00a0 Think again.
Now, the district magistrate of Noida will keep a tab on touts promising admission through management quota in various technical colleges and varsities in Noida and Greater Noida, resulting in education on merit.

Recently, a committee comprising Uttar Pradesh Techincal University (UPTU) joint director, joint secretary and additional district magistrate (ADM) Noida, Shivankant Dwivedi was formed after receiving complaints regarding admissions through illegal process in engineering and management colleges in and around Noida.

The committee then delved into the matter, and it was decided that the district magistrate from now on will oversee cases regarding touts, and will accordingly take them to action. If needed, a complaint will also be registered against the college, and their affiliation will be cancelled.

"Its high time that we take some action against touts and the colleges involved in the illegal process. The management quota is often being misused by college officials and thus, it has come under scanner. The magistrate from now on will keep a watch on such cases, and hundreds of students will be saved from getting duped," said a senior UPTU official.

Over the years, Noida and Greater Noida has become hub of engineering and management institutes affiliated through UPTU and the students who cannot make it to the cut-off list, prefer the back door entry. It is alleged that the rate of admission in engineering colleges is somewhere between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 7 lakh, and for management courses the rates can go upto Rs 10 lakh.

"There have been many cases of donation in Noida and Greater Noida and it seems to have become a norm for students to secure a seat in illegal manner. But the situation is expected to improve as the DM will now oversee such cases and after investigating the matter he will file a complaint to the police. Also, a report will be sent to the committee," added the official.
