Drivers, beware! You just can't get away with breaking traffic rule anymore, as the cops are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that norms are strictly followed.u00a0The cops have booked 7,63,515 errant drivers for various offences in about 100 days. These include 14,018 cases for over speeding, 13,566 for drunk driving, 1,12,412 for jumping signals, and 1,33,249 for parking in a No Parking areas.

Stick to English
Besides, the cops have registered 11,278 cases against vehicles owners for displaying registration number plates in Kannada. As per the RTO norms, number plates should have English numerals, which are universally understood. Moreover, number plates in regional language not only violate the Motor Vehicle Act, but also make it difficult to identify a vehicle in case of an accident. City Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari said that the traffic police have been directed to deal strictly with violators in this regard.

Along with from registration number plates in regional language, the traffic cops have cracked the whip on those honking unnecessarily and have 8,202 offenders in this regard.u00a0 "The drive targeted private buses, goods vehicles and maxi cabs," Bidari said. Cases against violation of no entry zones numbered over 1 lakh and 14,846 cases were registered against drivers of heavy vehicles plying in prohibited areas. Over 15,000 cases were registered against auto rickshaw drivers for various offences, including demanding excess fare, flawed licenses and refusal fare.u00a0 Simultaneously, during the same period, the traffic copsu00a0 28,171 vehicles for parking violations. Besides, they registered 188 fatal accidents and 1,319 non-fatal accidents in the first quarter.
