Some main roads in the Pune and in Pimpri-Chinchwad will be closed for vehicular movement for accommodating the annual palkhi processions of Sant Tukaram Maharaj and Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj. Both the palkhis will be arriving in the city tomorrow and will be leaving for Pandharpur on Friday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Vishwas Pandhre said that vehicular traffic would be diverted to other roads. Parking of vehicles on palkhi routes will be prohibited. For trucks and other vehicles moving along with the palkhis, the traffic branch has suggested alternative routes. Pandhare appealed to all the commercial establishments and educational institutions to reschedule their timings during the procession in their respective areas.

Around 600 police personnel, 35 police sub-inspectors, 15 police inspectors, two assistant commissioners of police and a deputy commissioner of police would be pressed into action to manage traffic, so that the processions are carried out peacefully.

Apart from the traffic police, there will be adequate police bandobast on the roads. In addition, a few Crime Branch officials, in plain clothes, would be keeping vigil on chain-snatchers, as there is a possibility that they might target old women, who have participated in the procession in large numbers.
