The initiatives include setting up of CCTVs at vital locations in the capital town, deployment of Quick Reaction Teams (QRT) of security forces in each and every sub-division and "modern" training to police and paramilitary personnel to prepare them for any eventuality.

Sources said the decisions were approved yesterday in a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and attended by top brass of security forces. Besides, strict vigil will be maintained at the Agartala airport, major bridges, bus terminus, railway stations and vital installations like Civil Secretariat and Rajbhavan, the sources said.

Visitors will be asked to show their identity cards before checking in hotels and tenants of rented houses will have to deposit their identity cards at the nearest police stations, they said.

State chief of Assam Rifles Brigadier B K Asthana and other paramilitary and military officers took part in the meeting, also attended by Director General of Police Pranay Sahaya, Assistant DGPs, SPs and other top brass of the state police.
