Upcoming art show 'Crossing Over' clubs the marvel of Indian artist Amitesh Verma with that of Californian artist Andrew Connelly. Here's a previewu00a0
Collaborations not only worku00a0 for music, but can do wonders for art too, especially when you want to defy geographical and cultural boundaries. A step in the direction is painting cum installation exhibition Crossing Over where an Indian artist who'd revered for his finesse over anatomical animal and human creations will be complimented by the large-scale set-ups of an American installation artist.
Transcendence by Andrew Connelly
Installations Complete
Sculpturalu00a0 set ups by Connelly echo the insig ht of Indian social and cultural structure that the American artist gained during his residency programme in the capital. Connelly is known for his large-scale sculpturalu00a0 set ups that are mostly performance driven. For the upcoming exhibition, the artist goes deep into the changes brought by industrialisation, existing bureaucratic set up and various layers of society. Some of his works are Transcendence (a bamboo structure rooted in the earth), Beacon (it combines terracotta pottery with a bamboo stick wrapped with a colour coated electrical tape), Instrument (it is made of soft drink bottles with concrete bamboo stick covered with electrical tape) and Identity where the artist uses cold drink bottles.
His Kites is super hit
Just like in recently released film Kites, Hrithik Roshan falls for a Spanish girl Barbara despite the language barrier, the Delhi based artist Amitesh developed a close bond with Mayra, a girl whom he met on a railway station during his three-month residency at Marnay-Sur-Seine in France in November last year. The blonde girl is the artist's muse for his work 'My Crush'. Even 'Awakening' is on similar lines. "I met her at a railway station in France and was impressed by the way she spoke. Though I couldn't understand what she said but I developed the bent,"u00a0 says Verma.u00a0u00a0 His series of work has 25 canvases in oil, charcoal and mixed media where the Delhi based artist deals with spiritual arousal that he experienced while being in France.
