Theu00a0local crime branch of the rural police have seized nine firearms from the Paud industrial area and arrested two people. A third accomplice, an accused in the murder of gangster Kishor Marne, escaped. The seized objects include three foreign-made pistols and 22 live cartridges. The police think the accused may have come to the spot to sell the weapons and ammunition on Saturday evening.
The police said they had information that three people, Babulal Mohol (33), Amar Nandkumar Mohite (28) and Sharad Hiraman Mohol, were to come to a bus stop in Mauje Uravade village in Paud industrial area at 5.30 pm on Saturday with firearms. "We reached the bus stand in a private car so that the suspects would not be alerted. We chased them and arrested Babulal and Mohite," API Rajendra Landage said. "Sharad Mohol managed to escape. We seized six country-made pistols, three foreign-made pistols and 22 live cartridges from a bag they had."
Babulal Mohol and Mohite are residents of Erandwane, while Sharad Mohol is from Mulshi. Inspector Jadhav said they suspected the three were carrying the weapons for sale. "We are still trying to find out the exact motive behind bringing so many firearms. No doubt it's for organised crime, but we are trying to get details," Jadhav said. "Sharad Mohol is an accused in gangster Kishor Marne's murder on January 11 last year. He got bail a month ago."
