A deputy superintendent of police (DSP) was critically injured when a bullet fired by his son during a brawl hit him in the head on Wednesday night in the George Town locality of this city in Uttar Pradesh, police said.
The incident took place at around 11.30 pm.
DSP SP Chaudhary received a bullet injury in his head and was rushed to a private hospital in critical condition.
"Chaudhary's son, Rajesh, is a drug addict and he entered into a brawl with his uncle. While other family members tried to pacify him, he pulled out a country made weapon and fired at his uncle," superintendent of police (City) AK Vijeta said.

The bullet first hit Rajesh's uncle in the hand and then pierced through Chaudhary's head, he said.
Chaudhary is posted in the Economic Offence Wing (EOW) in Varanasi.
"Rajesh is absconding and we will nab him soon," Vijeta added.
