Union Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh critical, hospitalised in Chennai

The Congress leader is believed to have been rushed to the Chennai hospital and is likely to undergo liver transplant.


Union Minister for Science & Technology Vilasrao Deshmukh was on Monday taken to Chennai for medical treatment as his health condition worsened.

He was air-dashed to the Tamil Nadu capital and is likely to undergo liver transplant at Global Hospital on Tuesday, sources said.

Deshmukh, a former Maharashtra CM, was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on Sunday because of ill health, which had deteriorated in the last few days, sources said.u00a0

Deshmukh has reportedly been afflicted since last year, but family members and close friends have been unwilling to discuss the issue.

Recently, his public appearances too had become infrequent, giving rise to speculation in political circles. Sources added that he had been taking light assignments to avoid strain on account of his health condition.

He had also visited United States for medical advice on a few occasions, sources said.

Deshmukh had recently been spotted a few times at Breach Candy Hospital. But, on Sunday his condition aggravated and he had to be hospitalised. u00a0
