Nashik: A 60-year-old man was killed and crops were badly damaged after unseasonal rains accompanied with hailstorm lashed several villages of Nashik district in Maharashtra.

According to reports reaching the headquarters, heavy rains hit Nashik, Niphad and Sinnar tehsil towns besides 40 villages last evening for an hour causing huge damage to standing crops of grape, wheat and onions in the district. Saikheda, Chandori, Karanjgaon, Tarulkhedale, Tamaswadi, Malsakore, Shingve, Kothure and Songaon villages were the worst-affected by the untimely showers.

Prashant Patil, Nayab Tehsildar in Sinnar said a senior citizen identified as Nivrutti Abaji Handore from Shindewadi died after receiving hailstorm injuries when he was returning home after grazing goats last evening. His livestock too were killed.

Reports from north areas of Sinnar tehsil town said grape crop received maximum damage there. Pomegranate cultivation in Satana tehsil town was also wiped out in the rain fury. Some parts of Nashik city also experienced light showers in the evening.

Even this morning, skies were overcast and more rains are expected today. Revenue officials have been asked to conduct crop survey to assess the damage caused due to hailstorm.
