Rumours are rife in University of Pune (UoP) circles that Vice-Chancellor Dr R K Shevgaonkar may be transferred to the IIT-Bombay as its head. Shevgaonkar was heading a department in the premier technology education institution located in Powai, Mumbai, before being appointed the vice-chancellor of the UoP.

The vice-chancellor was unavailable for comment, but sources in the UoP confirmed Shevgaonkar's transfer.
If the transfer happens, Shevgaonkar, like his predecessors, will also not have completed his five-year term at the university.
Vasudev Gade, director of the Board of College and University Development (BCUD), refused to comment on the issue. "I cannot comment on Dr Shevgaonkar's transfer and the best person to comment would be Dr Shevgaonkar himself," he said.
When asked if he would be handed over the additional charge in case of such transfer, Gade said taking such a decision was the prerogative of higher authorities and he had not received any official government communication on it.
2 burning issues
Two issues have got students worried at the UOP. These are:
> Students yesterday protested at BCUD Director Vasudev Gade's office against the exam department decision to cancel the Oct-Nov re-exams for first-year students of science, arts, commerce and computer science. Senate member Shashikant Tikole led the delegation of about 40 students and submitted a memorandum of demands to Gade. When contacted, Gade said the matter would be looked into.
> Several students who will appear for the newly introduced MTech-PhD entrance exam are in the dark about the syllabus and the question paper pattern as the UoP has not intimated them about it. When the course was announced, students had pointed out that they would not be aware of the syllabus as it was the first course of its kind. Officials had then promised that a 'model question paper' would be uploaded on the UoP website, but that has not been done. The national-level entrance for the four-year integrated course is on July 31.
