After 'errors' in MBA exams, now architecture students of Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University complain of out-of-syllabus papersStudents of architecture from the Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU) could not believe their ill-luck when they received their question paper. And this was not because of the complexity of the questions, but simply because the entire question paper was set out of syllabus. This was the same batch of students who had complained a day earlier as well that their question paper on Tuesday was completely out of syllabus.

Representation picA student on condition of anonymity, said: "We have enrolled for the five-year degree course in architecture. Our classes are held at Allana Institute of Architecture and on June 7 we were to appear for Culture and Built Form paper-Part I. When our exam started at 10.30 am, we realised the entire paper was set out of syllabus. We didn't know what to do and complained to the officials at the exam centre."
The college authorities got in touch with officials of YCMOU, who tried to pacify the students by asking them to skip the out-of-syllabus questions. They also said the students would be awarded compensatory marks. The students were, however, not to be placated and created a ruckus, after which the examination was cancelled and rescheduled for June 9. In all, 300 students across the state had appeared for the exam.
The next day was even more disquieting, said the students. When they reached the same centre on June 8 to appear for Part II of the paper, they were once again handed a question paper that was completely out of syllabus. This time, though, without creating a fuss, the university officials announced a re-examination on June 10. Sources at YCMOU said the students were blaming the examination department of the university for inefficiency, as less than 10 days days ago also there had been a goof-up. "Last week, MBA students too had complained of mistakes in two consecutive papers," said a source.
The Other SideDR R Krishnakumar, vice-chancellor of YCMOU, said the papers had been rescheduled, but denied oversight in setting of the papers. "After students complained, we called in independent experts who said the paper was not out of syllabus. However, since all the students felt so, out of respect for their sentiment, we have rescheduled the examinations and a fresh question paper is being set," Krishnakumar said. He said an inquiry had been set up to look into the matter. No error in MBA papers He denied the university had goofed-up with the MBA papers. "A case study was repeated in two papers and students said the question was wrong. But that is not true. If the person setting the paper feels the same case study is appropriate in two different questions of two separate papers and wishes to use it, it is permissible," he said.
