They said Menon, a resident of Brahmanpada in Vile Parle, called up the Go Airlines office on November 10, around 8.27 pm, claiming that there was a bomb planted in the Mumbai-Delhi flight No 343 and said one of his friends, Ambrish Parikh, who was travelling in the same flight was aware of it.

Based on Menon's description, the airline authorities checked for Parikh's presence on the plane and took him in custody once he was identified.

Soon, officials from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), dog squad and other security agencies reached the airport and started a search operation to locate the bomb, while a few of them interrogated Parikh. The flight was allowed to take off at 2 am after the officials failed to locate a bomb or an explosive.

On the instructions of their superiors, senior PI Deepak Phatangre, PI Jyotsana Rasam, Raju Kasabe and others started investigating the matter. Their investigation revealed it was Menon who had made the hoax call and had secured the SIM, using which he had made the call. He had provided the service provider a fake residential proof. Menon was arrested from Guru Nanak Petrol Pump in Andheri (East).

During interrogation, Menon told the officials that he was highly qualified and holds an AMIE degree, and did software programming for e-classes at national and international level.

Menon said Parikh worked for Kabbus University in Oman and the duo had decided to develop an e-learning programme for 100 students from the university, who were supposed to visit the country. They had decided to split the profit they make after developing the programme, but owning to a monetary dispute they parted ways.

Menon claimed that Parikh did not live up to his promise of sharing the profits equally and hence he decided to teach the latter a lesson. Menon said he secured the airline number from a website and made the hoax call.

Phatangre said, "We have arrested Menon and booked him under Sections 3(d), Suppression of Unlawful Acts against Safety of Civil Aviation Act, 1982, and 505 (b) - Statement Conducing to Public Mischief of the Indian Penal Code. He has been remanded in police custody till November 19." u00a0
