Several senior citizens, who attended the congregation arranged at the police headquarters in Shivajainagar yesterday morning, lashed out at the police for not helping them. Some of them complaint of rude replies they receive on contacting control room.
Infuriated after what he heard, Patil immediately directed the Commissioner of Police Gulabrao Pol to look in the matter and set up a special cell for helping senior citizens who live on their own.
Patil said, "A constable will visit needy elderly, who stay in their jurisdiction, and ask their well-being. If needed, help them to get necessary things like medicine, gas refill or help them with their daily chores."
Besides, officials would be maintaining a list of maids, servants and domestic helps who work in the house of senior citizens and phone numbers of social workers in their area would be given to senior citizens, whom they can contact during emergency.u00a0
