The World Bank has blacklisted a business unit of Bangalore-based Wipro Ltd until 2011 for "providing improper benefits to bank staff."
The bank has informed that Wipro's IT services unit had been barred from getting direct business with the bank since June 2007, but was naming it now to "make public the names of all companies that have been debarred from receiving direct contracts from the Bank Group under its corporate procurement program."
Meanwhile, Wipro denied the charges in a statement in its website.
The disclosure about Wipro follows the startling revelation by Satyam Computers Ltd chairman B Ramalinga Raju that the IT company's accounts were fudged for several years.
In September the World Bank blacklisted Satyam for eight years for "providing improper benefits to bank staff and failing to maintain documentation to support fees charged for its subcontractors."
