The city is preparing for the elimination round of the 23-year old I-Rock festival, the oldest rock festival in the country. You can watch rock bands compete with each other to take part in the finale on October 3 in Mumbai.
This year, there are rock bands with a difference, who will make you laugh, educate you on social issues and show you how old school rock can be re-packaged in a new bottle. Farhad Wadia, Founder of I-Rock, is also heartened by the fact this year's line-up includes three Hindi rock bands.

WorkshopLet this Mumbai-based rock band humour you. Their USP is their rock music that incorporates comic lyrics and dance moves that is sure to tickle your funny bone. Formed in 2007, they released their album Khooni Murga in December 2008. At I-Rock 2009, they will be performing songs from their album along with some amazing fusion music with tracks that combine metal with a dash of Bhangra, Garbha or a chorus in Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati and Hindi. The band members include The Demon Stealer (Sahil Makhija) on guitar and vocals, The Rijunator (Riju Das Gupta) on bass and backing vocals, The Rajbot (Rajarshi Bhattacharya) on the lead guitar and The Hamzoid (Hamza Kazi) on drums.
TripwireThis Mumbai-based punk rock band was formed seven years ago and will be performing originals from their album Stand By as well as their upcoming album. If you turn a deaf ear to social issues, this band will surely make you sit up and notice. Inspired by the punk revolution of the 1960s and 70s, this band is here to entertain as well as enlighten you with their message. The band members include Ameya on vocals and lead guitar, Jack on drums, Sagar on bass and vocals and Simran as the
sound engineer.
Pitch Black SymphonyThe winners of IIMA Blizzards of Rock-2008, Battle of Bands (Mega Mart)-2009 and Battle of the Bands (Pune Central)-2009, Pitch Black Symphony is a city-based progressive rock band. Popularly known as PBS, this psychedelic rock outfit started with a bang and were the Campus Rock Idol of 2007. Their unique sound fuses old-school rock with new age sound. Each of the band members are inspired by a variety of genres. The band members include Clinton Fernandes on vocals, Johnston D'Souza on Keyboards, Akash Chanda on Bass Guitar, Sober on Lead Guitar and Sujit Nair on Drums.
