It's a cloudy humid day outside, but the interiors at Torrp-It-Up's latest outlet, which opened yesterday, are cheerful.

The colours are the same as those that dot the original Andheri branch: chocolate brown and ice candy red and green.

This one's more spacious, and the kitchen-service counter is divided into vegetarian (green) and non-vegetarian (red) sections.

Managing director Prateek Mittal points out to the football memorabilia photographs pasted on the floor and the scoreboard that stands on one side of the counter.

"We'll be installing a screen to air the matches, and there will be special offers: we are giving away T-shirts and other memorabilia," he says.

It was the square-sandwich meals he ate in London that inspired Mittal to start the Torrp-It-Up franchise.

One of the younger members from the his family of builders, the Mittal Group, Prateek recalls how his lunch would end up almost always being a sandwich. "When I returned, I realised we didn't have that here.

There was Subway, but I wasn't happy with their stuff," he says. When in New York, Mittal tasted a Torpedo Sandwich, and knew he had to bring the flavour home.

Torrp-It-Up serves an array of salads, torrps, wraps and rolls with Indian, Mediterranean, Italian and Middle-Eastern stuffings.

Obviously targetted at young working professionals and students, the menu is packed with one-meal dishes. The Mediterranean Veggie is especially recommended, so we called for one.

The man behind the counter deftly packed the whole-wheat torrp with green peppers, lettuce, olives, jalapenos, a white dressing and star anise. It was wholesome, fresh and filling, and we washed it down with an icy lemon tea.

The sandwich revolution is here to stay, according to Mittal. He talks of how McDonald's adapted itself well to the desi palate, with its Aloo Tikki Burgers and Paneer Wraps.

Done with the meal, it's dessert time. Torrp-It-Up does a great brownie, so we opt for a doggy bag of the former. Back home, warmed in the microwave, it becomes a gooey chocolatey piece of sin.

After Torrp-It-Up branches in Ghatpokar and Vikhroli, there's a high-end lounge bar that's coming up next.
