Cliched PLOT: Kempa is a lacklustre romantic film
Film: Kempa
Cast: Santosh, Tanushika, Avinash
Direction: Jagadish
Theatres: Nartaki, Apsara, Navrang, PVR Cinemas
Rating: 2.5/5
This is yet another film based on Bangalore's underbelly. While the filmmaker tells a reasonably interesting story, the presentation is bland.
Kempa, (Santosh), a naive village lad, is dragged into a quagmire of crime after his sister is brutally killed by STF men, who have camped in the village to nab smuggler-poacher Veerappan. He runs away from his village and comes to Bangalore. He then eliminates Reddy, a notorious gangster, and rises to become the underworld don himself. He meets Bindu (Tanushika) and falls in love with her. The hero tries to turn good but meets a tragic end.
What's hot:u00a0 Santosh's understated but powerful performance. Tanushika is refreshing. Gurukiran's music is another plus.
What's not: The movie hardly has any intensity and is clichu00e9d.u00a0u00a0 Post interval, especially in the climax, the director gets a little carried away and the melodrama leaves you feeling worn out.
Verdict: On the whole, this flick may go down well with frontbenchers. But there is nothing exceptional for the seriousu00a0viewer.
