ATS still clueless about identity of the mysterious bomb maker
Despite several efforts to piece the jig saw leading to the Malegaon blast in September last year, Chakraborty has still remained an enigma for the ATS.
"We have not found any definite clues leading to Mithun Chakraborty," remarked ATS chief K P Raghuvanshi.
According to an ATS officer, the name of a mysterious trainer, Chakraborty, had surfaced during the interrogation and narco-analysis of Rahul Pande, a key suspect in the 2006 Nanded blast. Pande revealed that a tall, well-built man, identified as Chakraborty alias sir, was the main conspirator of the plot.
Provided explosives
Pande added that Chakraborty had trained right wing Hindu militants to prepare various types of bombs and improvised explosive devices. He also procured and provided huge quantities of explosives to make more bombs.
Foresnic lab reports available with MiD DAY indicate that Chakraborty while returning after training the recruits handed over a bag, containing large quantities of RDX, at Pune railway station.
Even other suspects, Sudhakar Chaturvedi and Pravin Mulalik, mentioned the name of the mysterious Chakraborty during interrogation.
However, the lead went cold as investigations progressed.
Nanded link in Malegaon blast case
Dr S Malini, assistant director, FSL Bangalore, informed the DIG of ATS (Mumbai) in a letter dated June 4, 2006, that Pande had confessed that he and other bombers were supporters of Hindu organisations like RSS and Bajrang Dal.
The six-page narco report also throws light on how the Hindu militants underwent training programmes at Shivagad near Pune prior to the Nanded blasts.
They were taught to make different types of bombs and use of explosives. Pande was injured and arrested after explosives went off while preparing a bomb at Nanded in early 2006. His associates, Naresh and Himanshu, were killed in the incident.
