The police, who else? Their negligence led to the Noida MMS scandal, finds MiD DAY
This may well figure at the very top of the Delhi and Noida police's goof-up list. The Noida MMS sex scandal involving an MBA student with Amity University, a story MiD DAY broke on February 18, 2009, could have been averted had the police acted on time.

In a complaint filed on June 23, last year, with the Delhi police's Economic Offences' Wing (EOW), the victim had requested the authorities to block her Yahoo, Orkut and Facebook accounts as they were hacked by an unknown person. After the EOW failed to act, she filed another complaint on October 10 with the station house officer of Sector 49 police station in Noida.u00a0u00a0
In this complaint, she mentioned the name of a certain Shanky Bawa, saying he had threatened to tarnish her image before her family and friends. She alleged her e-mail id had been hacked by him and that he should be blocked out with immediate effect. But this time also the police failed to take action.
When contacted, Delhi Police PRO, Rajan Bhagat said, "We can not block an account as soon as we receive a complaint. We have to first look into the matter. There must have been some reasons behind not blocking this particular account. I don't have the case details so it will be difficult for me to comment on the issue."
Even after repeated attempts, neither Noida SSP Naveen Arora nor SP (City) Ashok Tripathi could be contacted. Meanwhile, Faridabad DSP Ram Kumar Malik said, "While investigating the case, we came to know that the girl had filed a complaint both with the Delhi and Noida police. She had asked them to block her id
doll_minnie@yahoo.com, but no action was taken. Finally the account was blocked four months back. By then the damage had been done."
Sahil Khan, Delhi's youngest hacker said, "Blocking a hacked e-mail id takes not more that 72 hours if you follow the proper procedure. However, there are many websites that help you block ids faster. They do not take more than 24 hours."
Meanwhile, after the story was first published in MiD DAY, the girl wrote a letter to Amity University's pro-vice-chancellor requesting quick and strict action against the accused. The university, however, has done nothing more than suspending the BBA student. Savita Mehta, vice-president, Communications, Amity University, said, "The case is being handled by the police and the accused has been suspended. Unless the charges against him are proved in court, we can not take any further action against him."
The accused is out on bail and his father Sajeev Raj Bawa has applied for anticipatory bail in Chandigarh High Court. The hearing is scheduled for April 22.
"The eight laptops which were seized from the boy's friends will be sent to Delhi's EOW to create a mirror data of all the mails sent from them in the past two to three years. This will help us to trace the email id from which the MMS clip was circulated. That would help the case against the accused," said. Malik.
Story so farA Noida business school student sent out a video of his 23-year- old girlfriend, student of the same institution, doing a striptease for him, to some classmates, reportedly after the girl refused to marry him.
The boy, who apparently knew the password of the victim's email account, logged in to her mail and sent the video to some people on her contact list.
