Married for nine years, Sonu and Rajkumar had started living separately after a domestic row.
The complaint to the Hennur police said Sonu married to Rajkumar, a carpenter, against her parents' wishes after falling in love with him. Sonu was 15 when she eloped with Rajkumar and got married.
Rajkumar was then working under Sonu's father, who was a mason by profession.
Trouble began soon after, with Rajkumar and his parents harassing her.
"He was an alcoholic and used to beat me up everyday, demanding dowry from my parents. How can I go and ask for dowry when I have eloped and got married to him against their wishes," she told the police.
Sonu decided to put up with the harassment since she did felt embarrassed to return to her parents' house.
Sonu has two children Ajith Kumar (8) and Sandhya (4).
When the torture became unbearable, Sandhya sought her parents' help and returned to their house.
The torment allegedly continued there as well. Rajkumar along with his mother, Yashodha, would regularly visit her to harass her, her complaint said.
On her parents' advice Sonu filed a complaint with the Kothanur police, who summoned Rajkumar and advised him to stay away from her.
Sensing more trouble because of this, Sonu went to stay at a relative's house in Hennur. This, however, did not stop Rajkumar from trailing her, the complaint said.
On New Year's Day, Sandhya was playing in front of the house when she suddenly disappeared.
When Sonu did not hear anything about Sandhya, she began looking for her and learnt from the neighbours that Rajkumar and his mother Yashodha had taken Sandhya away.
"We have registered a complaint against Sonu's husband Rajkumar and are tracking his whereabouts," officials of the Hennur police station said.
