The 29-year-old woman, who was rushed to Victoria Hospital after her husband Syed Abdur Rehman allegedly set her on fire on Sunday night in their Iliyas Nagar home, gave birth to a baby boy early yesterday morning in Sevakshetra Hospital, located in Banashankari.

Inspector Baba Narona from the Kumara Swami Layout police station said, "We have not filed any complaints yet. We're not sure if these wounds have been self-inflicted or if she was attacked. No medico-legal case has come to us yet."

Yesterday, MiD DAY carried the report how religion caused a rift in their marriage.
The husband wanted to convert back to Hinduism, and she was opposed to that.

He added, "Meharunnisa's husband was here last night complaining about her and this is not the first time he has done something like this. He was here three months ago saying they fought."

Narona said, "She was here last night too. That's when we sent her to a hospital. From what I know, she is stable."

Baba Khan, Meharunnisa's neighbour, said, "Her husband has not visited her and the baby yet. Her brothers-in-law hated that she was a Muslim, they wanted their bother to re-marry a Hindu girl."

He added, "She is also well-educated unlike him, and they fought mostly because of their religious differences."
Usman Ali (22), Meharunnisa's younger brother said, "I was not aware of her marital problems.

She's the only one who could tell us." He added, "We want to take her to our Nagawara home as soon as possible."

Kavitha MB, staff nurse at Sevakshetra Hospital said, "She's in a much better condition compared to yesterday morning. The baby is doing well too."

She added, "We're treating her burns and following the right protocols to ensure her safety."
