BJP leader and former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha underwent a pacemaker surgery at AIIMS in New Delhi and his condition is stable, doctors said on Friday.
"He had undergone a pacemaker surgery three days back. It is a minor procedure related to the heart. His condition is stable," a senior doctor with AIIMS said.
A pacemaker surgery involves replacement of the natural pacemaker with an artificial one that is small, battery-powered device that sends out weak electrical impulses that cause the heart muscle to contract. The natural one is replaced with an artificial one when the heart is beating too slowly.
The 74-year-old former finance minister, who was admitted on February 6, is recovering at the CN Tower building of the hospital and is under the supervision of Dr V K Behl, head of cardiology at AIIMS.
"His post operative recovery is very well. We will discharge him soon," the doctor said.
