In two years, you will be able to take a stroll in a mango-themed garden in CBD Belapur thanks to the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC). NMMC plans to create nine theme gardens including a mango garden.
NMMC has a large amount of open space dedicated to gardens spanning 10,000 sq mts. In one of these gardens, the authorities plan to plant trees of every known mango species available in the country. "Since there are so many mango trees of different varieties in the garden in CBD Belapur already, we have decided to develop a mango garden there. We will have to plant some of the varieties of mango trees," said an NMMC official.
The trees will also have display boards near them to give visitors details about each species and its origins. "We are going to place a display board in front of the trees which will have information about the quality of the fruit, life cycle, etc. We expect that the information on the board will be helpful for academics that would like to study physical characteristics of mango trees," said the official.
The project will cost the NMMC an estimated Rs. 3.5 crore. Sanjay Desai, executive engineer of NMMC said, "Planning work of the mango theme-based garden along with four other theme-based gardens has begun. The actual on-ground work will start once the development proposal of theme based gardens gets approved in the upcoming general body meeting of the corporation."
The meeting is to be held in the next month. Other themes will include a step garden and a butterfly garden.u00a0
