Another MMS coup is hitting the NCR town but this time it isn't about sex. It's traffic, instead.
The Greater Noida authority had launched an MMS/SMS service to regulate traffic in the town and make registration of traffic rules violations easy. The unique selling point of the service is that even if a traffic cop is not present at a junction, a common person can record a traffic violation over his phone and send the MMS to the helpline number or else he can report it through a text SMS on the number 9999977100.
The service became an overwhelming success and the Noida police received more than a hundred MMSes in just three days of its launch.
Now, buoyed over the success of the MMS/SMS service, the Greater Noida police has embarked upon a comprehensive plan to bug all the important intersections and roads with close-circuit television (CCTV) cameras.
Apart from the busy junctions, markets and entry points of the town would also be under the closed surveillance of the cops. The move has begun with the installation of four CCTV cameras at Pari Chowk junction of the town.
Being the only city in the Northern circle to have such a unique service, many of the complaints hail from the adjoining cities of the town. Success of the MMS/SMS service has given a way to other similar initiative where city's entry points, populous markets and other few busy junctions are kept under the CCTV surveillance. These cameras are been installed in accordance with the ones earlier been installed on various junctions, markets and other populous regions of the national capital.
Under the new initiative termed as 'Smart City surveillance system' the Greater Noida Police department will try to nab the traffic rules violators. Necessary details will be harvested from the recordings of the cameras and the law-breakers will receive the necessary details, warnings, 'Challans' etc. through the posts.
Salendra Lal, CO, Greater Noida says, "Few days back Greater Noida Police launched an MMS/SMS service to receive the complaints of the traffic rules violation in the town which is receiving good response from the people. We are getting complaints related to our town and the adjoining cities as well."
Numerous cases of murder, rape, kidnapping and road rage killings have been reported in the town during the recent days.
These CCTV cameras will be able to function even in the absence of sufficient light. It has also been decided that similar kind of cameras will be installed at Surajpur as well as Authority regions of the town.
