If you are fed up of getting stuck in the queue at the Dahisar and Mulund-LBS toll plazas then there is good news for you. By June 1, motorists entering the city from these entry points will not have to waste time by standing in queue to pay toll as both these toll plazas will be upgraded with radio frequency identification devices (RFID).
The technology uses a radio device installed at the plaza to track cars via a sticker put on the windshield. Last August, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) had introduced RFID technology on the Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL). and it got a good response.
According to Jayant Mhaiskar, chairman of Mumbai Entry Point Limited (MEPL), which collects toll at the five entry points to Mumbai, said, "The RFID technology has received a good response from motorists as it saves a lot of time. In the last eight months around 10,088 people used RFID on BWSL and many more are opting for it. The RFID system is already in place at three other toll plazas and by May 31 we will also have it at Dahisar and LBD-Mulund toll plazas."
After the success of the RFID at BWSL, the services were made available at the three entry points (toll plazas) to the city which include Airoli, Vashi and Mulund (East). By May 31, the RFID will also be available at Dahisar and Mulund toll plazas.
Confirming the same an official said, "After the RFID technology was introduced at Airoli, Vashi and Mulund (East) toll plazas, it was observed that there was a decrease in the traffic at these points. And now we will complete the work of installing RFID at the important Dahisar and LBS-Mulund toll plazas by May 31," Mhaiskar added.u00a0
