Active Covid-19 cases in India drop below 1 per cent

India on Saturday reported 29,616 fresh Covid cases. Of these, the highest number was reported from Kerala with 17,983 new infections and 127 fatalities. In the same time, the entire country reported 290 total deaths, as per the Union Health Ministry health bulletin. The Covid toll in India now stands at 4,46,658.

India's active caseload stands at 3,01,442, which accounts for less than of one per cent of total Covid cases. The total active cases in India is 0.90 per cent. The recovery rate currently stands at 97.78 per cent, which is highest since March 2020.

82.57 crore vax given

More than 82.57 crore Covid vaccine doses have been provided to states and union territories so far and over 94 lakh doses are in the pipeline, the Union Health Ministry said on Saturday. Over 4.15 crore balance and unutilised vaccine doses are still available with the states and the Union Territories for inoculation, it said.

The Union government is committed to accelerating the pace and expanding the scope of Covid vaccination throughout the country, the ministry said in a statement.

Drill in hospitals

The Uttar Pradesh Health Department organised mock drills in five government hospitals to test their emergency response preparedness to deal with any rush of Coronavirus patients.

The hospitals have been preparing themselves to deal with a possible third wave of the pandemic.
