The Modi government on Wednesday unveiled the Budget 2023 which aims to boost growth amid concerns about the impact of the global slowdown on the Indian economy.

Announcing the key health highlight of the budget, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman mentioned 157 new nursing colleges in core locations across the country.

Adding other highlights, she said, "Facilities in select ICMR labs will be made available for research by public and private medical faculties."

"New programme to promote research in pharmaceuticals is announced by the Union Finance Minister.

She said, "The pharmaceutical industry has been asking for incentives to promote R&D investments. A new programme for research in pharmaceuticals will be formulated and the industry will be encouraged to invest in research."

"A mission to eliminate sickle cell anaemia by 2047 will be launched. It will entail awareness creation, universal screening of seven crore people in the age group of 0-40 years in affected tribal areas and counselling through collaborative efforts of central ministries and state governments," Sitharaman said, presenting the budget in Lok Sabha.
