Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Mumbai Police has now booked car designer Dilip Chhabria for cheating a Chennai businessman of Rs 25 crore. Chhabria is in judicial custody.
Indermal Ramani accused Chhabria of luring him into car spare part business and then duping him.
Ramani's auto spare parts business shut down in 2019 and he moved to Chennai to venture in gold jewellery business.
However, Chhabria met Ramani and offered to help him bring his car spare parts business to life by purchasing his supplies.

As per Times of India, police said Ramani initially invested Rs 16.5 crore and supplied parts for DC Avanti. "But things did not work out. Soon, Chhabria complained of recession and sought more money. Chhabria said if he did not get aid he would be in a big loss. Ramani said he too was facing a cash crunch and offered 18% interest, and Chhabria promised to pay off everything." said an officer.
Chhabria paid off a few crores but later the payments stopped coming and he started avoiding Ramani, that's when he realised that he has been duped.
Police booked Chhabria, wife Cherry, son Bonito, his wife Anushree and sister Kanchan and invoked IPC sections for criminal breach of trust and cheating.
