Four people were killed in a sad accident in Maharashtra's Beed district, including a father-son combination, when a truck crashed with a pickup truck. Around 9.30 pm on Friday, a deadly accident happened on the Ahmedpur-Ahmednagar highway in Sasewadi village, Beed taluka, according to a PTI report.

According to police accounts, the pickup truck was en route to Patoda via Manjarsumbha in the district when it collided with a truck delivering pipes from the opposite direction. The impact caused the pickup truck to become entangled with the truck and dragged for a long distance, the report further stated.

According to the report, Prahlad Gharat (63), his son Nitin (41), Vinod Sanap (40), all occupants of the pickup vehicle, and the truck driver, Gahininath Garje (31) were killed in the collision. All four people were sadly killed on the spot.

Meanwhile, in another case, authorities in Palghar, Maharashtra, dismantled a diesel pilferage racket, resulting in the registration of a case against nine individuals. During the operation, petroleum products valued at Rs 16.95 lakh, including an oil tanker and a tempo collectively worth over Rs 45 lakh, were seized.

The incident was discovered on January 11 when a supply department flying squad performed a raid at about 5 am. The operation discovered an organised system involving the theft of diesel from oil tanks located behind a hotel in Palghar's Chilhar Phata. Diesel was illegally transported from tankers into drums stacked on tempos for later sale, a PTI report stated.

According to the report, following an inquiry, it was determined that the tanker's seal had been tampered with, forcing authorities to file a police report. The charge was filed at the Manor police station under sections 285 (negligent conduct with fire or combustible materials) and 34 (common intention).

Charges were also filed under several orders and acts, including the Motor Spirit and High-Speed Diesel (Regulation of Supply and Distribution and Prevention of Malpractices) Order, the Essential Commodities Act, the Maharashtra Solvent Raffinate and Slop (Licencing) Order, and the Petroleum Products (Maintenance of Production, Storage, and Supply) Order, the report added.

The defendants in the case include the drivers and owners of the oil tanker and tempo, the owner of the transportation firm, and the owner of the site where the illegal acts occurred.
