Infant mauled down by stray dog in Noida; a look at similar incidents from past

A one-year-old child died after being bitten by a stray dog in Noida's Sector 39 area on Monday evening, sparking massive protests. The child was taken to a hospital where he was undergoing treatment but succumbed to injuries late at night, said Gautam Budh Nagar Police.

Similarly, a few days ago a pit bull attacked a 10-year-old child in the Sector 23 area of Raj Nagar. The child has to undergo150 stitches on his mouth.

Following the incidents, we tracked down a few more incidents related to the stray dog menace across India this year.

• On June 11, 2022, a five-year-old boy was mauled to death by stray dogs in Maharashtra's Katol town in Nagpur. The boy had stepped out for a walk along with his sister when some stray dogs attacked him. The dogs dragged the kid to a construction site, where he was mauled to death.
• On February 4, 2022, fisherfolk in the coastal area of Arnala in Virar West complained about stray canines menance in the area. A pack of stray dogs attacked an eight-year-old boy in the Arnala area who was out to play with his friends. The news report reported that the locals in the area mentioned that there were around 10 such cases each day. Nearly half a dozen strays chased the boy, bit him all over his body and mauled his left ear.
• On June 27, 2022, the residents in Panvel's Kharghar area wrote a letter to the municipal commission of a civic body regarding the menace of stray dogs. The residents demanded that municipal corporation should tackle the growing issues of dog menace in the area. In the letter, the residents mentioned that at least five children have become victims of dog bites.
• On September 8, two students in Kannur were chased by a pack of stray dogs. The students While the attack were caught on a CCTV camera. The students ran and managed to get inside a house to escape the dogs.
