The Nationalist Congress Party (SP) chief Sharad Pawar on Thursday admitted the candidate for Lok Sabha elections 2024 for Sangli seat was announced without consultation between constituents of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), reported the PTI.
The MVA comprises of Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress and the Sharad Pawar-led NCP.
The Shiv Sena (UBT) had announced the name of wrestler Chandrahar Patil as its candidate from Maharashtra's Sangli even as MVA ally Congress was keen to contest, as per the PTI.
The decision had led to friction between the two parties, resulting in Congress' Vishal Patil contesting as an Independent.

Queried about merit not being followed during seat sharing discussions in the MVA, Sharad Pawar told reporters "Sangli is an exception where the decision was announced without discussions," according to the PTI.
Sharad Pawar said that he found out from television about the announcement (of Chandrahar Patil's candidature).
On being asked if the situation can be rectified since a three-corner fight would only benefit the ruling BJP, Sharad Pawar said, "Now that a decision has been taken, lets face the situation. Let the people decide," as per the PTI.
Lok Sabha elections 2024 will be held on May 7 in Sangli, where sitting BJP MP Sanjakaka Patil will take on Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate Chandrahar Patil and Independent Vishal Patil.
PM Modi's speeches not based on facts and reality: Sharad Pawar
Amid ongoing Lok Sabha elections 2024, Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) chief Sharad Pawar on Thursday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying his speeches were not based on facts and reality, the PTI reported.
Talking to reporters in Kolhapur, Sharad Pawar also alleged that PM Modi doesn't talk about the basic issues that people face and diverts their attention.
"I have never seen a prime minister earlier whose speeches were not based on facts and reality. He is satisfied with targeting me and Uddhav Thackeray," Sharad Pawar said, as per the news agency.
