A police officer in Madhya Pradesh's Chhatarpur district was removed from field duty on Monday after a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator sat on a dharna accusing him of misbehaving with him, an official said.
Rajesh Prajapati, the MLA from Chandla (SC) Assembly seat, staged the protest on the intervening night on Sunday and Monday after a heated argument between him and Lavkushnagar police station in-charge Hemant Nayak.
A video of the argument between the legislator and the police officer surfaced on social media.
Chhatarpur's Superintendent of Police (SP) Sachin Sharma said taking cognisance of the video, Nayak has been line attached (removed from field duty) and an inquiry by Additional Superintendent of Police Vikram Singh has been ordered into the incident.

In the video, Nayak was heard shouting at Prajapati that he will not file a fake case, which further led to the argument.
Later, Prajapati sat on the dharna and another BJP MLA Pradyuman Singh Lodhi also joined the protest after midnight.
SP Sharma reached Lavkushnagar police station, spoke to both the legislators and assured them of action in the matter.
Prajapati told reporters that he had reached the police station after Nayak refused to register an FIR against a person who had allegedly assaulted a speech and hearing-impaired woman.

He claimed Nayak not only misbehaved with him, but also with the woman and even asked her to show the assault marks.
Prajapati said he will raise the issue of the police officer's misbehaviour in the state Assembly and also take the issue before the privilege committee of the House.
Lodhi, the MLA from Malehra in Chhatarpur, said SP Sharma has assured to register a case on the woman's complaint.
Meanwhile, Rajesh Prajapati's father and former MLA R D Prajapati demanded registration of an FIR against Nayak under provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act for allegedly making casteist remarks.
He said if action is not taken against Nayak, he will ensure that his MLA son resigns from the post during an upcoming G-20-related event in Khajuraho, the temple town in Chhatarpur district.
