At least five women were killed and two others were injured after a speeding truck ran over them in Maharashtra's Solapur district on Tuesday, the police said, reported the PTI.
According to the PTI, the accident occurred in Bandgarwadi village on the Pandharpur-Atpadi Road in Solapur at around 3.45 pm, an official said.
The victims, who were farm workers, were waiting for a state transport bus when a speeding truck rammed into them, he said.
Locals rushed to the scene after hearing the women's screams and alerted the Sangola police station, the official said.

Five women died on the spot, while two victims, who were in critical condition, were referred to a hospital in Pandharpur, he said.
Locals thrashed the truck driver and handed him over to the police, the official said, the news agency reported on Tuesday.
Following the incident, a huge crowd gathered at the scene, disrupting traffic on the road, he said.
Personnel from Sangola police station dispersed the crowd after assuring strict action against the driver, he said.
The truck driver was also admitted to hospital as he sustained injuries in the attack by locals, the official said, adding that a case will be registered against him.

Meanwhile, in an another incident, a man allegedly driving his car in an inebriated state hit a woman and an on-duty police officials with his SUV on a busy road in Khar area of Mumbai, the police said on Tuesday, reported the PTI.
The police have arrested the suspect who has been identified as Hiten Desai in connection with the accident, an official said.
The accident took place at around 7.45 pm on Sunday, an official said, as per the PTI.
Hiten Desai, who was allegedly drunk at the time of the incident, was driving from Linking Road in Bandra west and had reached Khar west when the incident happened, he said, according to the PTI.
The suspect first hit a woman who was standing with her husband near their two-wheeler and then proceeded to ram the SUV into an on-duty policeman who tried to stop him, the official said.
Hiten Desai did not stop the vehicle, but locals managed to intercept him after some distance and handed him over to the traffic police, he said, the news agency reported on Tuesday.
The accused has been arrested under sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (endangering life), 353 (assault on public servant), 308 (culpable homicide) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicle Act, the official said.
