Maharashtra: Tiger kills 70-year-old man in Chandrapur; second death in three days

A 70-year-old man, a farmer was killed in a tiger attack in Brahmapuri tehsil of Maharashtra's Chandrapur district, a forest department official said on Saturday. This is the second incident in just a span of three day. A 40-year-old woman was killed on October 20 after a tiger attacked her.

Sadashiv Undirwade, the victim, a resident of Kudesaoli village was at his farm near a forested patch when a tiger lurking in the thicket pounced on him, killing him on the spot, the Chandrapur Territorial Circle official told the PTI.

"The kin of the deceased has been given initial compensation. Villagers have sought that the big cat be captured by setting up cages in the vicinity," he said.

Earlier, a woman identified as Rupa Ramchandra Mhaske was killed by a tiger near Halda village in Bramhapuri tehsil. Rupa was collecting grass for her cattle in the afternoon near Halda village when she was attacked by a tiger, an official had then said, as per the PTI.

In September last week, a 55-year-old woman was mauled to death by a tiger at a village in Chandrapur district. The incident had taken place at Awalgaon village in Bramhapuri tehsil.

Dhrupada Mohurle, the victim had gone to her farm when a big cat lurking in the bushes attacked and killed her, an official had then said.

Following a search, the woman's body was found in compartment no 1138 in the range, he said, adding that a spot inspection was performed in the presence of forest officials and police.
